[NOTE: This product is now discontinued. See blog for info on how to construct it yourself: http://www.steve-marton.com/gimx/?p=468]

This is a full plug and play solution for using the Logitech G27 racing wheel on your PS4! It includes:

  • Raspberry Pi 2 Model B
  • Case
  • DIY GIMX adapter
  • Power button and status LED
  • 4GB SD card with DietPi pre-loaded and set up to run GIMX on startup

No PC required. Just plug in your wheel and drive! The PS4 will detect the wheel as a Logitech G29, and all of its functions including force feedback, pedals, shifter will all work as intended. When you’re done driving, press the power button, the LED will flash a few times, and a few seconds later when the LEDs on the RPi stop flashing you are free to unplug the power to the Raspberry Pi.

The Raspberry Pi comes with the DietPi OS pre-loaded on the included 4GB SD card, GIMX set up to auto-start, and scripts pre-loaded to make the status LED light up when the emulator is fully up and running and ready to be detected by the PS4, and the power button is programmed to shut down the OS before unplugging the power, to avoid corrupting the SD card.

To emulate a wheel, plug in the power chord of the wheel, plug the wheel’s USB cable into the RPi, plug a DualShock4 into the RPi (this is required to authenticate the wheel), plug a Micro USB cable from the PS4 into the RPi to power it up, then plug another Micro USB cable from the PS4 into the Micro USB port on the Arduino (DIY GIMX USB adapter). Wait a few seconds until the RPi boots up and the status LED lights solid. Then the wheel is ready to use. Just press the emulated PS button on the shifter (leftmost red button), and the wheel should be detected as a controller, and will function as a racing wheel in racing games that support the G29.

With a few tweaks you can configure this package to emulate anything that GIMX supports. But out of the box, I can only offer G27 emulation for now. Click here for instructions on how to support other emulations. Read up about GIMX, what it can emulate, and support forums at gimx.fr. Use at your own risk. I use this same setup myself, and it has been working great for me! Happy racing!

Gave a 5 stars based on cost/funcionality. I bought it as a gift for a cousin cuz I have a G29 and he has the G27 so we can play together. At first everything was perfect but now he tells me that the G27 has been disconnecting so does it always need to be connected in the same order as the description says? Or it doesn’t matter. Anyway 5 stars because I trust this is a solvable issue.

Hard to tell what “disconnecting” means. You can hook up the rpi to a tv/monitor, or ssh into it, and run gimx manually to see what the status of gimx is. There might be a useful error message when the disconnection happens. The gimx forums might also be of help.

You could also burn a fresh image on the sd card. If it was reliable for a while and then became unreliable, it’s possible that something changed in the Linux system. You can find the image here: http://www.steve-marton.com/gimx/?p=180

Hello, I recently bought the converter and it works great! However, at around 10-15 mins of play the wheel is unresponsive. I can turn it off and on, then once it’s reset it works again for this period of time. If you have any idea what the problem is, that would be great!

    • stevemb1

Hmm not sure what that could be. You can try following the debugging steps here http://www.steve-marton.com/gimx/?p=237 and see if gimx spits something out when it stops working.

Hi, I’ve got a wingman Formula Force GP. Would the P&P emulator work out of the box or also only after some config? Rating 5 stars, since this looks very promissing to get my sons steering wheel uar again on the PS4

    • stevemb1

Not sure about Formula Force, please read up on the gimx site/forums. I don’t think it will work out of the box but should be easy to modify if gimx supports it.

Works like a charme! Had to change the config to DFGT but with Steve’s guide it’s pretty easy to do. Had an issue with one of the Micro USB cables.. it hasn’t send any signal to the ps4. Checked the cables on my laptop (just try to plugin the ps4 controller with them, if windows doesn’t plays the detect sound, it won’t work) and found the issue.
Thank you Steve! Great work! 🙂

I just bought your device, and it seems to be working great. But there is one issue, not sure if you got a solution on this. Since the PS4 only has 2 usb inputs, and using this Raspberrry device with a driving wheel will occupy 2 usb inputs, how will we be able to play PSVR driving games with this device attached. The PSVR also requires a usb input to connect the external processing unit, so where to plug this?

    • stevemb1

Hmmm I thought I had played on psvr for a few minutes and don’t remember running out of usb slots (I might’ve been playing on duashock??). If you power the rpi with a phone charger or similar, you’ll free up a usb on the ps4. Or use a usb hub.

      • stevemb1

There’s an extra usb port on the back of the ps4. Are you using that?

    Exellent product, zero lag.

On PS4 settings *connect controller via USB*
Plug all cables, power on your wheel, do not put power on DS4, leave it powerless on end of USB-cable and press manually power to PS4 on front button, voila and everything works.
(Use back USB port for power is lacking ports)

Thanks to Steve for doing this to all lazy us 🙂
